A view of Tokyo from the Metropolitan Towers in the Shinjuku District of Tokyo. Someone explained to us that the reason there are no skyscrapers in most of Tokyo is becasue of the frequent earthquakes. The only place where you can find towering buildings (such as the one this photo was taken from) is in Shinjuku which rests on a small area not prone to land movement.
A panorama of the famous Sensō-ji Temple in Tokyo, Japan. This was taken at about 7am, which is perhaps the only time one can see this place without it being engulfed in a sea of people. As a side note - my apologies for the long break, will try my best to post more often.
Last Tuesday I went to a Jays game with a couple of old co-workers. It was the Jays promo night where certain sections are only $2. It was good catching up with the guys, should be doing another one of these outings soon. On a technical note, this is a panoramic stitch from 6 photos.
The magnificent Bank of China building in Hong Kong. It is said to have bad Feng Shui because it looks like a knife - I still think is the best looking building on the island, particularly at night when it lights up.

Hong Kong was the last stop on our Asia adventure and was a great way to end our trip. Much like Tokyo, the transportation system was amazing, people were friendly and it offered some really great shopping. We'll most definitely head back there one day.

I have included the original shot, before processing, under the link "original" in the footer below. To see more images that contain original images, click on archive and then the "contains original" tag.

The Beach

A beach on the infamous Koh Phi Phi Lay, site of the 2000 Blockbuster "The Beach" - the actual beach can be seen in the upper left. Nina and I decided to paddle our little green kayak to this smaller beach in the bay which was not overrun with tourists. Crystal clear waters, towering limestone cliffs, a beautiful girlfriend right beside me - I couldn't ask for more.

We stayed at the nearby Koh Phi Phi Don island which had no motorized transport and you could walk the town up-down and left-right in about 15 minutes. A secluded piece of paradise, which is getting more touristy by the day. Prior to getting there we were in Bangkok and Phuket, which were both great in their own way. Bangkok was a great cultural experience with its numerous temples and mix of western/local influences; Phuket was a bustling beach town with amazing food and markets.

Just got back from the far east where Nina and I spent the last few weeks trekking through Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong. Trip of a lifetime for sure, and going through the 15gb of photos should also be a feat of a lifetime. We have slowly picked out some of the shots for our family/friends/work slideshow so that is where this shot comes from – A Tokyo cab.

While we didn’t take any cabs in Tokyo (they were quite pricy), we did experience their super efficient transit system and the Shinkansen bullet trains. We spent our 5 days between Tokyo and Kyoto, taking in a fair amount of both modern and traditional Japan. Great people, good food and amazing scenery. We could have easily spent another week in both places, however our 5 days past in a flash and off we were to Thailand.
As 2008 rolled around last night, so did a major snowstorm. While it was not as bad as the one couple of weeks ago, it still did its part. This was taken in the Greenbelt down my street - it is not so green anymore. Happy New Year to all, hope you all have a great 2008. Cheers!
Today the Greater Toronto Area (and most of southern Ontario) got hit really bad with over 25cm of snow - the most we've had in the last 15 years I believe. Lots of shoveling and clearing, and a couple of photos in between. This one is of an evergreen that was half buried in our backyard. Should be a fun commute to work tomorrow.
